Tasmania is a truly underrated little gem of Australia with beautiful scenery excellent food and wine and amazing tourism offers, it was an easy choice for our Grow2GO 2022 trip.
The group were based at Hotel Verge in Launceston and were split into groups one each day to experience four different activities of the guests choosing, allowing guests to “create their own adventure”.
The experiences were:
Golfing at Barnbougle – a chance to golf at one of the top golf courses in the world was too tempting an offer to pass up for our golfing fans. From all reports, both the golf course and clubhouse were thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended.
Shootin’& Fishin’ – Currawong Lakes. – Just a 1.5hours outside of Launceston lies a really unique property, reinvigorated by owners and hosts Merryn and Richard, the property is teeming wildlife; birds, deer and of course many fish. Guests were given the rundown on trout fishing before trying their luck and possibly exaggerating about the size of the fish caught. The shooting range at Currawong Lakes is in a league of its own, created by a former Olympian, it provided challenges for all who gave it a shot. The whole day was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
ATV Adventure & Marine Farm Tour – The most popular of the experiences, almost all attending guests included this on their itinerary and were not disappointed! The ATV tour launched from Coles Bay in purpose built all terrain vehicles, driving through water and mud and seeing some of the best views on the East Coast of Tassie. Lunch at the stunning Freycinet Lodge was enjoyed by all before heading to a working marine farm to see how oysters are farmed first-hand and enjoy the freshest oysters available.
Tamar Winery Tour – The Tamar Valley region is filled with a large variety of wineries and distilleries. Guests were treated to a hosted tour of a great selection of beautiful wineries and gin distillery while soaking in the beautiful scenery of the Tamar Valley.
The trip concluded with a dinner at local restaurant Bluestone Bar & Kitchen. The entertainment for the evening was local sporting legend David (Boony) Boon. In a twist of fate, this day coincided with untimely and unfortunate passing of another cricketing legend, Shane Warne. Boony was very generous with his time, sharing hilarious stories of “the way things were” and telling a tale or two of his mate Warney. Boony was a highlight of the trip and the night a very fitting conclusion to the event.
