The Cairns Amateurs Racing Carnival is three days of fun, fashion, glamour, food and entertainment
The Cairns Amateurs Racing Carnival is three days of fun, fashion, glamour, food and entertainment built around two days of horse racing in Cairns in early September each year.
This year, 58 Suppliers, Natbuild Members and their customers were lucky enough to experience the highlights of the Cairns Amateurs during a 4 day trip to Northern Queensland.
The trip kicked off with a casual welcome dinner at the Shangri La, The Marina, taking advantage of Cairns’ stunning evening weather and enjoying live music by local artist Steve Rockman.
The next day the group ventured to Green Island for a day in the sunshine and to see one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef. Our Marine biologist for the day, Phil, shared his extensive knowledge of the island and the Reef. The group had the opportunity to experience the reef from the glass bottom boat and/or get up and personal with the local marine life with a guided snorkeling tour, where many saw turtles, manta rays, an abundance of fish and the beautiful Great Barrier Reef!
The group had their own marquee on the inside of the track with a clear view of the finishing post.
That evening the group attended the President’s Cocktail Ball, the official opening of the Cairns Amateurs, followed by an After Party at local Brewery Sauce Brewing Co.
After a free day to explore Cairns and surrounds or relax and unwind, attendees enjoyed a fun and fancy black tie event at the Cairns Amateurs Gala Ball. The Greatest Showman-themed ball had an array of entertainment; dancers, contortionists, stilt walkers and live music. The night finished off with a wonderful fireworks display, an evening thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The main race day of the Cairns Amateurs made up the last day of the trip. The group had their own marquee on the inside of the track with a clear view of the finishing post. A Punter’s club created a bit of excitement for the day with a few wins early on, but unfortunately the all or nothing approach that has fared us well in the past resulted in….nothing.
Natbuild thanks our supporting suppliers for making this trip possible; Allegion, Bradford, Hume Timber & Doors, Hyne Timber, Knauf, Laminex, Paslode and TasmanKB. We also thank each of the attendees for being such wonderful company throughout the trip and Cairns for putting on such a great show and great weather!!
