Laminex’s ‘Built to go the Distance’ trip

Melville Island, located 60km North of Darwin in the Tiwi Islands is an angler’s paradise with an extensive array of mangrove lined river and creek systems, sand flats, bays, inlets and coastal reefs, all abundant with marine life. So when Laminex asked about running an exclusive promotion with Natbuild’s members and their customers, with a trip to Melville Island as the prize, we naturally jumped at the opportunity.
Over the course of 3 months, members competed against each other to achieve the highest growth on target on Laminex’s particleboard flooring. 5 winning members and their lucky builder customers were off to Darwin to start a 4 night trip away to the NT for the Fishing Trip of a Lifetime.
The trip began with a night in the very warm and humid Darwin, cooling off with an adrenaline-filled (and very wet) airboat and jetboat experience and a trip to Crocosaurus Cove to get familiar with a few of the scaly locals.
We then departed for Melville Island on (very) light aircrafts to begin our 2 day Fishing Adventure. The very welcoming and patient team at Melville Island Lodge gave us a rundown on how to cast with the goal to cast so accurately it would land in a bucket.
Goose Creek is abundant with wildlife; buffalo, crocodiles, sea eagles, brolgas and of course many species of fish.
The first day of fishing saw half the group go out in to the open water, while the other half went to Goose Creek, a gem of the Tiwi Islands.
Goose Creek is abundant with wildlife; buffalo, crocodiles, sea eagles, brolgas and of course many species of fish. The open water fishing group were delighted with the amount, variety and size of fish they caught, telling many stories of the huge fish they caught, the huger ones that “got away” and even a close encounter with a tiger shark.
The second day of fishing saw the groups swap experiences from the previous day and really hone their skills learned and practiced during their time on Melville Island.
The following day, the group boarded the light aircrafts again for a quick flight back to Darwin before making their journey back home.
The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all of our very lucky guests and will no doubt be talking about their experience for quite some time.
